Precautions For Maintenance Of Neutral Blocks: Avoid Damage And Malfunctions

Neutral blocks are the core components of electrical connections, widely used in distribution boxes, mechanical equipment, and industrial control systems. If not maintained properly, it can easily cause malfunctions such as poor contact, short circuits, and even fires. Mastering the following maintenance points can effectively extend the service life of terminals and ensure electrical safety.

1、 Regular cleaning to prevent oxidation and corrosion

Long term exposure of neutral blocks to humid, dusty, or corrosive gas environments can easily lead to the formation of oxide layers or dirt on the surface, resulting in increased contact resistance, heating, and even burning. Suggest wiping the surface of the terminals with anhydrous alcohol cotton balls every quarter to remove oil stains and oxides; If the environment is harsh (such as in a chemical workshop), cleaning should be shortened to once a month. Avoid using corrosive solvents during cleaning to prevent damage to the metal coating.

2、 Tightening inspection to eliminate potential looseness hazards

Loose terminals are a common cause of malfunctions, especially in environments with frequent vibrations such as motors and transportation equipment. It is necessary to use a professional torque wrench to check the tightness of screws every month to ensure that the torque value meets the manufacturer's requirements (usually 0.5-1.2N · m). If the screw slips or the terminal is deformed, it is necessary to immediately replace it with a new one of the same specification. Do not forcefully tighten it to cause the terminal to break.

3、 Standardize operations to avoid physical damage

When wiring, it is necessary to use wire stripping pliers of the corresponding specifications to ensure that the exposed length of the wire matches the depth of the terminal hole (usually 2-3mm more is sufficient). Too long can easily cause short circuits, while too short can result in poor contact. After inserting the wire, it is necessary to wrap the exposed part with insulating tape to prevent electric shock. When disassembling terminals, special tools (such as needle retractors) should be used to avoid violent pulling that may cause terminal deformation or internal spring failure.

4、 Environmental control to reduce the risk of aging

Avoid installing terminals in areas with high temperatures (>70 ℃), high humidity (>85% RH), or strong electromagnetic interference. If the ambient temperature is too high, heat sinks or fans can be installed; If the humidity is high, a desiccant should be placed inside the terminal box and replaced regularly. In addition, stay away from corrosive liquids and flammable materials to prevent aging and cracking of the terminal insulation layer.

Tip: If there is abnormal heating, odor, or color change (such as blackening) in the terminal, immediately turn off the power for inspection and do not continue to use. Although regular maintenance requires a small amount of time, it can significantly reduce the failure rate and ensure stable operation of the equipment.
